National Museum of Natural History and Science
The National Museum of Natural History and Science (MUHNAC) is a place of education, science and culture in the heart of Lisbon.
The Museum has its origins in the Royal Museum of Natural History and Botanical Garden, created in the 18th century, although this space had already housed educational institutions since the 17th century. MUHNAC includes places steeped in history, spaces of great historical and scientific interest and the Botanical Garden, which is a national monument. Highlights include the Chemical Laboratory and its emblematic amphitheatre, the Astronomical Observatory and the former riding arena of the Colégio dos Nobres.
Its collections include important natural history, instruments and other scientific objects. In addition to two dozen exhibitions, visitors will find a wide range of activities aimed at stimulating curiosity and understanding about nature and science, and bringing the University of Lisbon to their city and society.
