Douro Museum

The Douro Museum’s mission, as a museum of the territory, is to represent the natural and cultural heritage of the Douro Demarcated Region, consecrated World Heritage status by UNESCO as a cultural, evolving and living landscape.

Combining tradition and modernity, it is seen as a collective space of memory and identity of the wine-growing region, in constant dialogue with the present, and at the same time, as an instrument for enhancing the activities associated with wine-growing, cultural tourism and wine tourism.

It consists of a central space – the Exhibition Area – which houses the permanent exhibition “Douro: Matter and Spirit”. Surrounding this exhibition space is the “A Companhia” Restaurant, the Shop, the Archive, the Library, the Reading Room, the Conservation and Restoration Center, the Wine Bar and the Garden Terrace overlooking the River Douro.

Next door is another building with modern architecture covered in black schist panels, where the Education Service is located.
