Alqueva Lake Observatory
The Alqueva Lake Observatory is an astronomical observatory that promotes the connection between the general public and knowledge of the Universe. Astronomical observations consist of a guided tour of Monsaraz’s magnificent night sky, where you can learn how to orient yourself by the polar star, identify the constellations and learn about their legends, relate the color of stars to their ages, observe star clusters, nebulae and distant galaxies with the help of telescopes.
Explanations are given in accessible language by OLA guides whose training is in astronomy and astrophysics. When the sky is cloudy, the OLA replaces the astronomy session with a real-time navigation session, using software that shows all the celestial objects in the sky in real time. www.olagoalqueva.pt
